Background and Aim: The significant influence of cultural contexts on the employment challenges faced by women with disabilities is undeniable. To enhance the occupational empowerment of this group, it is essential to identify and eliminate cultural barriers that hinder their progress. This study seeks to examine the connection between societal cultural barriers and the employment experiences of women with disabilities.
Data and Method: This research employs a quantitative, survey-based approach, focusing on women with disabilities in Khorramabad city, who were selected through simple random sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire designed by the researchers. To ensure validity, face validity was established by consulting experts. For reliability assessment, confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were applied, with results confirming the instrument's validity and reliability. The sample size was determined to be 185 individuals using Sample Power software, then increased to 200 to ensure reliability.
Findings: The findings indicated that as experiences of oppression, gender stereotypes, and minority status among women with disabilities increase, their ability to find employment diminishes. Structural equation modeling results demonstrated a significant effect of these cultural barriers on the employment opportunities for women with disabilities in Khorramabad.
Conclusion: This study's results suggest that addressing and reducing cultural barriers in society is essential for empowering women in the workforce. Overall, cultural obstacles in society hinder growth and development, especially regarding the employment and empowerment of women with disabilities.
Key Message: Employment and economic empowerment are among the issues facing women with disabilities in Khorramabad, mainly due to societal cultural structures. Tackling and removing these cultural barriers can significantly promote economic independence, participation, and job opportunities for women with disabilities.
